Deeside Wetwell well underway

Some projects stop you in your tracks and this is one of them.

And it's not because of their scale. Not because of the machinery on site. But because of what's happening beneath the surface and what it takes to make it happen safely, accurately and without any issues.

GRS are currently on site at Summer Bridge, delivering one of the most technically demanding scopes in our project portfolio. This is specialist civil engineering at its most unforgiving and it's exactly the kind of work that defines who we are.

It's looks great on our marketing, but this is the type of work we've done over and over again for decades.

So what's the scope?

GRS are constructing an 8 metre deep, 4 metre diameter reinforced concrete wet well - a structure that requires absolute precision from the first survey to the final pour.

To facilitate the deep excavation, our team has designed, supplied and installed a sheet piled cofferdam, providing the structural boundary required to work safely at depth. Alongside this, a comprehensive dewatering system comprising wellpoints and deep wells has been installed to control groundwater ingress and maintain dry working conditions throughout the construction programme.

Every element of this temporary works package has been engineered specifically for the conditions at Summer Bridge. Nothing is left to chance.

The expertise on show?

This is complex, complicated and unforgiving work. The ground doesn't give you much room for error at 8 metres deep and the consequences of getting it wrong are significant. We are working with a base of sand.

Our operators at Summer Bridge have done this before. After six decades in civil engineering, GRS has accumulated the kind of knowledge that simply cannot be replicated in a short period of time. Our team knows what these conditions demand. They know what the ground gives you and what it takes away. And they know how to build in it safely, to programme and to the standard that infrastructure of this nature requires.

So what's next?

We've delivered all the preparatory work last week. Now we'll get to it.
