GRS lays tarmac on Rowland Homes Chadderton scheme

GRS Contractors has laid tarmac on the new roads at Butterworth Lane, Chadderton, and its gangs are now working on the first plots of Rowland Homes' 149-home scheme in Oldham.

GRS is principal contractor. Its package includes surface water pipework up to 1800mm in diameter, a dedicated surface water pumping station, foul drainage up to 150mm and an attenuation tank, which stores water and releases it slowly.

"The road is the bit everyone sees, but the work underneath is what the rest of the scheme depends on," said Tom Keane, owner and managing director of GRS Contractors. "We started in July with our own crew in our own compound, and it is good to see the plots under way. Chadderton is another step with Rowland Homes."

Contracts manager John Roughley is overseeing delivery. He has run several GRS schemes for Rowland Homes, including Royal Gardens in Bispham and Highfield Manor in Haydock. Work on the large-diameter pipework comes next.
