GRS makes a fast start at the Airfields, Deeside

GRS Contractors has made a fast start on its latest job at the Airfields, Deeside. In its first three weeks on site, it put in 140 metres of foul sewer, including seven manholes four metres deep.

The Merseyside based civil engineering contractor is delivering the roads and sewers on the H4 parcel for Anwyl Homes and Bellway Homes. It won the work on the back of the wet well it built nearby.
In those first three weeks, the GRS gangs have:
installed 140m of foul sewer, including seven manholes four metres deep
put in 200m of dewatering well points
laid 32 piling mats
built the haul road
moved 800m³ of topsoil
put up 200m of fencing
set up the site and compound
The well points lower the water level in the ground, so the gangs can dig deep and work safely. On Deeside, the manholes could not go in without them.
The work carried on through last week’s heavy rain and high winds, with Kensite supplying the site welfare.
John Roughley, Contracts Manager at GRS, said: “Getting the set-up right from day one is what makes the rest of the job run. With the compound, the haul road and the well points in early, we’ve kept working whatever the weather has thrown at us.
“The lads have done a great job, and the Kensite welfare has made a real difference on the wet days.”
Tom Keane, owner and Managing Director of GRS Contractors, said: “We won this job because of how we delivered the wet well, and we’ve started H4 the same way.
“Set the tone, set the job up and deliver what you promise to the client. That’s how GRS works, and it’s what Anwyl and Bellway expect from us.”
GRS Contractors has been delivering civil engineering works for the housebuilding sector for over 60 years.
